Zbigniew Karkowski - 1958–2013 RIP

Yesterday, Polish composer Zbigniew Karkowski succumbed to pancreatic cancer. Karkowski studied composition with Iannis Xenakis, Olivier Messiaen, and Pierre Boulez, and became a frequent collaborator of Masami Akita (Merzbow), Tetsuo Furudate, Dutch sound artist Edwin van der Heide, Atau Tanaka, and Andrew McKenzie (The Hafler Trio). The torment of sound engineers around the world, Karkowski enjoyed intentionally destroying expensive PA systems before his extremely loud (and usually punk-rock brief) concerts. Today, we'll remember him for his music.
