From memory, there were only three hundred copies of this, which plays a large part in explaining the rapid price speculation. Apparently, around two thirds of this are different takes and mixes than those on the CD version. Whether that is true or a blatant tactic by the speculators to increase it's scarcity value is somebody else's guess!

This contains the three people in the previous Ché-SHIZU post as well as a multitude of other people. It's probably possible to describe the extraordinary diversity within the sound of Maher Shalal Hash Baz but I'm not that brave ... lover not a fighter and all that.

CD released on Geographic in 2000. It also came in a double vinyl edition with three additional tracks ... unfortunately, I don't have that.

Anyone reading this blog is surely familiar with PSF's required-listening-for-everybody compilation series, Tokyo Flashback. In 2007, the premier psych/rock/jazz/folk/noise label unleashed a flashback with artists from Japan, South Korea and China and it's just as solid as anything else on PSF, which is to say that it's a jaw-dropping collection of both known and little-known Asian artists. Includes Li Jianhong (both with his fierce noise-rock duo D!O!D!O!D! and in a trio with Shoji Hano and Narita Munehiro), Soonie, Mustangs, Amature Amplifier, Kim Young Jin, and many others.

Takuya Nishimura, Tori Kudo, Tsukasa Takahashi and Chei Mukai with the latter three later becoming members of the free-form ensemble Maher Shalal Hash Baz although not always at the same time.

Originally an LP released on Zero Records in 1984. This is the Alchemy Records CD reissue from 2001 that had two additional tracks.

The great Junji Hirose plays all sorts of noise-making junk for his duo LP with percussionist Yoshinori Motoki. Recorded in 1982 and 1983, released on vinyl by Cacoon in 1984.

Unsurprisingly, this is a series of live recordings. From 1996. There is another (7 track) version that does the rounds that purports to be this. It isn't, it's actually Glimmering Star. If that's what you have, delete and replace.

Ché-SHIZU - Glimmering Star

Takuya Nishimura (Miminokoto, Suishou No Fune et al) on bass, Ikuro Takahashi (Fushitsusha, LSD March, High Rise, Overhang Party an so on) on drums, Koma Keita on guitar and Chie Mukai (of East Bionic Symphonia, Maher Shalal Hash Baz and Marginal Consort) on keyboards. Given the people on board, you might expect it to be full-roar psychedelic rock-freak-out. Whilst it occasionally stretches out, it's more lilting and introverted but repeated listening peels back the details and carries on rewarding.

Initially an LP released on Aleutian Retto in 1999. This is the CD reissue on Alchemy Records from 2002 with additional tracks.

Junji Hirose - Hodgepodge

Hirose's ultra-rare 2nd LP, this one was recorded in 1981 and released by Cacoon in 1982. It features a big step forward for Hirose, this time playing sax, electric guitar, and noise-making junk. He's joined by Yasuhiro Yamazaki (drummer for Masayuki Takayanagi's groups!), bassist Shuichi Nagano, and the late jazz guitarist Akira Iijima.

We have had to change file hosts many times since we started in 2009.

Most of the older links are undoubtedly dead. If we were to try to keep every link going there would literally be no time for new posts.

Given that we have an untold number of things that we think need to be heard, it's not possible to do both.

Some things may be re-upped but (as always) we are unlikely to pay any attention to "anonymous" requests.

Entertaining (rather than desperate) requests may stand a chance but don't bet on it!
