Various - The Artificial Nerve

This gem was originally released as a 5 x C12 set on Yasutoshi Yoshida's (aka Government Alpha's) Xerxes label in 1997 in an edition of 30. There was a lower profile edition on Xerxes that compiled these as a single tape with a different order of events and some different track lengths. This is the latter.

Fancy some Macronympha or Skin Crime or MSBR or Magmax (which is Koji Tano in another nuclear reactor related alter ego) or Alpha Beaulieau (which is Government Alpha collaborating with Emil Beaulieau who is obviously the saintly RRRon Lessard) or Kapotte Muziek collaborating with Government Alpha or some other little gems? All thrown together on one sweet little tape?

If not, what the hell are you doing here?

P. Children - Documentation 1987-1992

An absolute stunner of late 80's/early 90's brainpan-rattling industrial clank by a band that only left behind a handful of low-profile cassettes and vinyl, the best tracks of which were compiled onto this CD. P. Children were the Pittsburgh-based trio of Mike Parker (who now teaches in Buffalo NY and, apparently, makes techno music), Harold Walls, and Robert Kirzinger (who went on to work with the Boston Symphony Orchestra).

Here at the end (for now) of the massive Odal dump, we get to a 1986 cassette on BloedvlagProdukt. It's messy and ugly and does precisely what you want an Odal tape to do.

Here's a 7" single that came out in an edition of just 100 copies in 1997 on yet another of Odal's labels, New Noise.

Another tape from Odal's earliest days, this was released in 1986 simultaneously on BloedvlagProdukt and a sub-label of Frans de Waard's Korm Plastics label called Opus Dei Society.

Another bit of very early Odal noise from 1986, this tape came out on one of Peter Zincken's BloedvlagProdukt imprint. I'm not sure what the relationship was between Bloedvlag and Nihilistic. They might have been separate labels, or a sub-label, or... who knows.

Everyone loves a cute baby. Look at that baby! Aaaaww! This 1986 cassette came out on Not 1/2's Industrial Therapy Unit label in Canada, where all the babies are as adorable as this one.

This one's a mystery. No information, no catalog number (though it is on Nihilistic), and no clue who Uriniglirimirnaglu was. Bla!

Päivänsäde - Puhalluspelto

Päivänsäde were a freak folk improvisational outfit that arrived in 2004 and left (for recording purposes) about two years later. They featured many members of Finland's other-wordly inner explorers in their time: Niko-Matti Ahti (who has played in Kemialliset Ystävät and Kiila), Avaruuskatti, Pauliina Haasjoki, Pekko Käppi (who has featured in Office Building and Killa), Laura Naukkarinen (aka Lau Nau and has played in Hertta Lussu Ässä and Kiila amongst others), Sun Pa and Antti Tolvi (Lauhkeat Lampaat and Rauhan Orkesteri).

For advanced listening, wait until around September when the Psilocybe Semilanceata grows freely, paint your arse blue and go and converse with nature!

Peter Zincken was extremely active in the hometaper underground network. He ran several labels, publishing comp tapes and collaborations by other basement-dwelling creeps from around the world. This tape came out in 1988 on Nihilistic Recordings, which was just one of Odal's imprints, as a collaboration release with the Canadian label Industrial Therapy Unit, run by Allan Conroy, aka Not 1/2.

Continuing the theme of cassettes by obscure bands with four-letter names that begin with the letter O, here's some low-fi ugliness from Amsterdam-based wacko and veteran hometaper Peter Zincken. Zincken is currently a member of Fckn'Bstrds, is sometimes known as Dr. Bibber, and has been making a shit-smeared mess under the Odal banner for decades. This tape came out on Lor Teeps, a label run by the artist Jan Kees Helms.

A ten-minute tape from 2005, released on Swampland Noise in a run of 50 copies. Those fluctuations in volume are exactly what's on the tape, not artifacts from mistakes in my rip.

We have had to change file hosts many times since we started in 2009.

Most of the older links are undoubtedly dead. If we were to try to keep every link going there would literally be no time for new posts.

Given that we have an untold number of things that we think need to be heard, it's not possible to do both.

Some things may be re-upped but (as always) we are unlikely to pay any attention to "anonymous" requests.

Entertaining (rather than desperate) requests may stand a chance but don't bet on it!
