1978 LP of the man whose name is synonymous with free improv guitar,
Derek Bailey, recorded in a Tokyo studio with local heavyweights including monumental bassist
Motoharu Yoshizawa, trumpet player
Toshinori Kondo (a collaborator with Steve Beresford, Peter Brotzmann, Peter Kowald, and many more), percussionist
Toshi Tsuchitori, tenor sax player
Mototeru Tagaki, and sax player
Kaoru Abe. This version is the 1992 CD reissue on DIW.
Outtakes from these sessions were eventually released as a CD called
"The Music.... Hardcore Jazz", which is yet unheard by me. Less than a month later, a quartet of
Abe,
Bailey,
Yoshizawa and
Kondo would take the stage at Machida-Kavalika and record a blistering set that found daylight as the
"Aida's Call" CD. I might post that one later if anyone's interested.
