Cory Strand - The Bling Ring: A Reinterpretation

I don't know much about the prolific Cory Strand and the releases tend to be extremely limited so they are usually gone before I know they exist. However, the Altar Of Waste blogspot is as good a place as any should you want to play the catching game. Even so, the new three cdr set has only been available for a few days and is gone! Mind you, there were only ever five copies. He also has a bandcamp page where he kicks the twerking emptyheads in their pretty little arses just for fun.

This is a seven cdr set that reinterprets a film that I know nothing about (I tend to focus on European and South East Asian cinema) but you can check the full motivation here.

There were only ever five copies of this set for sale. I think that it is a truly magnificent thing! Cory can tell you what to expect:

"In working with the soundtrack I have tried to mirror the film's pacing, with the first three discs being the more aggressive and flashy of the set. Massive psychedelic walls of screaming noise combine with washed out club bangers and crushing percussion loops, creating a numbing repetitive sort of "dance noise" that crumbles and glitters simultaneously. The last three discs retreat into psychic oblivion, with frigid washes of empty graying ambient mirrored by caustic HNW of the emptiest sort, all struggling to eradicate a sort of sickly sweet loveliness stinking of illusory nostalgia and connection. I feel i have done a successful job in interpreting Coppola's thematics and this set stands as a personal favorite amongst my works, reveling in a mass of new sounds and techniques while existing well within the defined confines of my projects."

BRN - Five Pieces for Winter

Benjamin Nelson currently records cold analog-synth minimalism under his given name, but in the mid 00's he made harsh noise as BRN and Burn Ward. "Five Pieces..." is one of his earliest CDRs, probably from 2005 or 2006. It came out on Anxiety Attack in a red textured paper envelope that looks like a wedding invitation.

Arthur Doyle, Takashi Mizutani And Sabu Toyozumi - Live In Japan 1997

Double LP released in 2003 on Qbico.

In a different kind of trio, Arthur is joined by Sabu Toyozumi on drums and Takashi Mizutani (of Les Rallizes Denudes) on guitar.

I only found out today that Arthur passed away in his hometown of Birmingham, Alabama on January the 25th this year. These posts are my clumsy way of bowing my head and saying thank you for all of the beautiful music.

Arthur Doyle Trio & The Orkustra - Split

Excellent picture disc LP which fittingly marked the 100th release on Qbico in 2010.

The Arthur Doyle Trio on this occasion is Arthur with Rashid Sinan on drums and Charles Stephens on trombone. Charles spent over a decade playing with the Sun Ra Arkestra so you know this is going deep. Their side is a live recording in New York from 1972.

The Orkustra were a San Franciscan psych rock collective that featured Bobby Beausoleil (of the "infamous" Lucifer Rising soundtrack) on guitar. This side is recorded live in San Francisco in 1966.

Lassigue Bendthaus - The Engineers Love

This is the beginning of Uwe Schmidt's hyper-prolific career as a solo artist. Starting out in the industrial disco band Pornotanz with a tape that came out in 1986, Schmidt produced this cassette of cold, heavy synthesizer tunes a couple of years later for the NG Median label. It would be the first time he used the name Lassigue Bendthaus, which would later be applied to more melodic and insanely detailed albums such as Matter and his masterpiece, Render. It's when Schmidt fully embraced techno and ambient music that his productivity exploded, with work appearing under tons more "band" names (Bitniks, VSVN, Almost DigitalSeñor Coconut, Urban Primitivism, Lisa Carbon, etc etc), all produced by his pseudonym Atom Heart or Atom(tm).

De Fabriek - Music For Endless Cassettes

The most recent cassette I'm posting by De Fabriek, and one of my favorites. This c60 came out in 1989 on the De Fabriek label, which by the late 80's had become a factory for producing not only music by Richard van Dellen and his rotating cast of factory workers, but also likeminded artists and collaborators such as Yximalloo, Technological Aquiver, Beequeen, Vivenza, Telepherique, The Klinik, and many other weirdos from deep within the international hometaper underground.

I have lots more De Fabriek tapes that I could post, so drop a comment if you like what you're hearing and want more!

This was recorded live (obviously) at LAB on Vesterbrogade 107b in Copenhagen in 2001. It was released on Koji Tano's Denshi Zatsuon label in 2003 in an edition of 50.

The edition of 50 might seem like a lot compared with some micro edition esoterics. However, Hirohito Taneguchi rarely played live (especially outside of Japan) and given the label, this is a rare and special thing!

This is 70 minutes of Seed Mouth captured live!

Crack Fierce - Full Metal Confused

Hideki Kato's wonderful Crack Fierce. This is a CDr released on Patrick O'Neil's Solipsism in 1998.

This is on discogs but hey, what else do you need to know?

"Crack Fierce was started in Spring 1996, and ended in 1999. I don't remember distinctly Crack Fierce's last release, but perhaps it was "Full Metal Confused" or "Perspicacious Variance". I was influenced from very plentiful various noisicians and avantgardists, like TNB, Organum, Incapacitants, Aube, Thirdorgan, Monde Bruits, Macronympha, Skin Crime, BLJ/Richard Ramirez, etc. etc. etc., many extreme noise, and also influenced by European noise like Kapotte Muziek, THU20, De Fabriek, Das Synthetische Mischgewebe. Also spiritually respect 70's cult German Kraut like Can, Faust, Neu!, and a part of Canterbury prog-rock like Henry Cow, Quiet Sun, This Heat, etc. etc."

Various - The Artificial Nerve

This gem was originally released as a 5 x C12 set on Yasutoshi Yoshida's (aka Government Alpha's) Xerxes label in 1997 in an edition of 30. There was a lower profile edition on Xerxes that compiled these as a single tape with a different order of events and some different track lengths. This is the latter.

Fancy some Macronympha or Skin Crime or MSBR or Magmax (which is Koji Tano in another nuclear reactor related alter ego) or Alpha Beaulieau (which is Government Alpha collaborating with Emil Beaulieau who is obviously the saintly RRRon Lessard) or Kapotte Muziek collaborating with Government Alpha or some other little gems? All thrown together on one sweet little tape?

If not, what the hell are you doing here?

P. Children - Documentation 1987-1992

An absolute stunner of late 80's/early 90's brainpan-rattling industrial clank by a band that only left behind a handful of low-profile cassettes and vinyl, the best tracks of which were compiled onto this CD. P. Children were the Pittsburgh-based trio of Mike Parker (who now teaches in Buffalo NY and, apparently, makes techno music), Harold Walls, and Robert Kirzinger (who went on to work with the Boston Symphony Orchestra).
