Vulture Club - Pure Agitator

Vulture Club was the work of Thomas Lee. He didn't get the chance to release much music before cancer took him in 2007. These two releases and the Wailing Bones track are the only things that saw the light of day ...

CDr released on his own Invisible Generation label in 2006.

Kheta Hotem - Live At Yläkaupungin Yö Festival Jyväskylä 2005

Kheta Hotem traced their roots back three thousand years to nomadic Artic tribes. They took this very seriously and incorporated their musical ethnography with indigenous instruments from across the world. They are also notable for having Keijo [Virtanen] as a core member who went onto make a huge impact on the labels that you would expect in this territory and records to this day.

CDr released on Foxglove in 2006.

Listening to Tim Coster's music, it won't come as a surprise that he is originally from Auckland. Even though he is now based in Melbourne, he has the sound of subunderground New Zealand in his bones. CDr released on his own CLaudia label in 2007.

Natural Snow Buildings - Shall I Kill My Own Child, I Will Never Sing The Glory Of Satan!

This is the first self-released tape and again is from 2001. There is "only" the titular track here but it is an epic long form version of the track on the preceding tape that takes the music into a completely different direction.

Shall I Kill My Own Child, I Will Never Sing The Glory Of Satan!

Whilst we are on the subject of Mehdi Ameziane and Solange Gularte. A few weeks ago, they have released a free six disc masterpiece.

Trust me, you really need it!

Natural Snow Buildings - Tracks On The Bloody Snow

There are only two physical copies of this 2008 self-released CDr and they were given to Brad Rose of Digitalis Recordings and Nemo Bidstrup of Time Lag Records. These tracks are the earliest recordings of NSB, originally created between 1998 and 1999. This version of "The Dissociation Of Sir William Gull" is over three times as long and completely different in every other respect than the one that appears on the Two Sides Of A Horse tape.

Various - Greening Wave

Let's face it, you don't really read the crap that I write.

Let's just say that this is a quadruple C20 set alongside a CDr. And let's also just say that this was released on Jeff Astin's remarkable Housecraft Records in the less remarkable year of 2008.

Luckily for everyone you get a lot of Jeff Astin.

On the tapes: Xiphiidae, Royallen and Hairmaiden Of The Totem Robe, Jeff and Kane Pour's Tricorn And Queue, Jeff & Jason Nicolaus's 1994, Kane Pour's Hundreds as well as Kyle Conklin's Do Tell.

The CDr has live recordings of Xiphiidae, Royallen, Hairmaiden Of The Totem Robe, Hundreds and Jeff and Evan Galbicka's Cyquoia project.

Now do you really want me to tell you what I think about this or are you just going to download and listen? Thought so ...

va - Gold Leaf Branches

Digitalis Recordings, run by artists Eden and Brad Rose since 2003, is probably the second or third greatest experimental/drone/folk/free-music label ever to come out of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Not only has their work as publisher/curators (and producers of the Foxy Digitalis webzine, RIP) been massively prolific, they have also heroically highlighted sub-underground, zero-visibility artists from America, Finland and New Zealand, putting Digitalis in roughly the same category as fellow visionaries/travelers Last Visible Dog, Jewelled Antler, Pseudo-Arcana and Celebrate/Psi/Phenomena. In other words, if it's on Digitalis (or sub-label Foxglove) it's probably worth your time.

Intrigued? Well, then this giant compilation ought to keep you busy for a while. "Gold Leaf Branches" came out in 2005 as a triple CD, with an extra bonus CDR for people who pre-ordered directly from the label. It's a pretty good representation of what Digitalis was about, with some music by the Roses' more well-known favorites (Six Organs of Admittance, Hala Strana, Hush Arbors, Marissa Nadler, Weird Weeds) and lots by artists that might be new to you: Plat Ypus, 6majik9, The Golden Oaks, Snowfoxx, Agitated Radio Pilot, Braspyreet, Kulkija, and too many more to list. Dive in!
