Torturing Girl‎ - Torturing Girl

Firstly, this is what happens when Torturing Nurse meets Alo Girl!

Secondly, this is an LP from 2011 on the greatest noise label in the world! Obviously, it's Urashima!

Thirdly, this is only a rip and it sounds so much better on the actual vinyl...

Fourthly, it makes me wet myself in a good way!

Fifthly, sorry for the images that came with Fourthly...

Anemone Tube‎ - Forget Heaven / Angel Falls

Anemone Tube is the dark ambient noise work of Stefan Hanser. Things went quiet on the AT front for quite a while but it's all back on and you really should check the new split with Dissecting Table.

Double cdr released on Solipsism in 2000. Solipsism was a great offshoot of Patrick O'Neil's Self Abuse Records. This is a compilation of previously released work which you can figure out here (it saves my typing finger).

Dead Machines‎ - The Night Terrors

These are three 3"cdrs released on Chondritic Sound. The first was in 2003 with the remainder coming out in 2006.

[About 3 years ago, Greh fell into "a little difficulty". I bought the Steel Trap boxset with the Darksmith, Hive Mind, Work/Death and Bloomer tapes. And, then nothing happened. I stayed in touch and Greh promised to sort things out. It took about 14 months but sure enough he is a man of his word! Chondritic Sound is back to its glorious best and you should visit soon!]

In Girum Imus Nocte Et Consumimur Igni

Mammoth seven cdr set of fine European HNW artists released on Bosnia and Herzegovina's Zvukovina label in 2010 in an edition of 30.

The label is / was run by Andreas Brandal, Neven Misaljević and Ela Vuk. The sound arm of the label is currently in hibernation and they are focusing on graphic works. Hopefully there will be more noise coming soon.

These discs feature Namazu Dantai (Sascha Mandler), Ptomain (Steffen Cordts), Terminal Erection (Nicola Vinciguerra who you also know as Fecalove), Drevne Bolesti (who are Andreas Brandal and Neven Misaljević who you will also know as Smrznik), Placenta Lyposuction (Harold Gojani who also records as Taklamakan), Die Reitenden Leichen (Matthias Mützlitz) and TFT (Alessio Mininel).

There is a comprehensive review of the release here (which saves me a lot of time).

Merzbow & Das Konzentrat - Ars Electroica

Split c60 on Drahtfunk-Products from 1991. One side is by Das Konzentrat, a German group also known as Telepherique. The other side is by an obscure Japanese artist who I don't think ever recorded anything else. He just fell off the map after this tape. It's too bad, because his side really shows potential. I guess he didn't have anything else left to say.

John Hudak - Mover Head

Beautiful tape mulch by one of the hometaper kings of the US 80's/90's, the prolific John Hudak. Mover Head contains two side-long pieces, each consisting of just a few sounds that cycle neatly over and around each other for thirty minutes... no build-up, no wind-down, only deeply lysergic stasis. The second side, "Participants", is a high point in Hudak's vast catalog. It seems to be made from the sounds of children playing basketball in a gymnasium. There's a specific reverberation one hears in a school gym that smears away the sonic details of squeaking sneakers and shouts of play. Can you recall that sound from when you were a kid? Okay, good. Now focus on it intently, and stare directly into the sun for half an hour. Perfect.

Originally released in 1987 by Sound of Pig.

Swans‎ - Children Of God

This was released in 1987 as a double LP. This was during the time where I had to rely on inspirational fanatics to get this kind of American music released in Europe...imagine that these days...hearing rumour...having to buy expensive imported vinyl to even get the chance to hear it...

And the Europeans stepped up and allowed us to hear these kind of things...a complete revelation as we were given access...how times change!

Anyway...I bought this as soon as it came into my city (immediately) and I quickly had my ticket to see Swans on the Children Of God tour at the International in Manchester. I was aware of the earlier more "industrial" releases but this release and seeing it live? Changed my life! Believe me...seeing Swans delivering this at the time felt like being impaled by a celestial spike. I haven't changed my mind! If I ever got around to making a personally definitive list of the greatest music ever made (which I do frequently...I just can't agree with myself) then this would be right up there!

I assume that people know about this. I assume people know what I know (which is irrational). If you have ever heard this then I don't doubt that you own it already. If not, take some time out and immerse yourself!

There are things that hit you just at the right time and then change you forever...this is one of mine.

As far as I am concerned, this is one of the greatest pieces of art. EVER!

Swans are still very active and I have seen them quite a lot over the past few years. They are currently crowd sourcing for the delights that they are in the process of producing. The money is to provide some food and shelter so that they can concentrate on the glory that is Swans. You should check it out on Michael Gira's Young God Records. I've already committed and already have my physical copy of Not Here / Not Now (number 1974 in case you need to know).

Bardo Pond‎ - Vol. 1

CDr released in 2000.

These self-released recordings largely feature the band pulling out some excellent jam sessions that were either sold on tour or via their own Hummingbird Mountain label. They were usually in editions of a hundred or so and are all long gone!

Bardo Pond are simply one of the great psych rock outfits who fortunately reward us with their longevity and keep releasing great work. They have just released the "Peace On Venus" LP on Fire Records which you really should buy straight away!

"I heard someone comment recently that the limits of music have now been defined, bracketed by John Cage's silence at one end and Merzbow's maximum noise at the other, leaving only the option of filling the spaces in between. Bardo Pond demonstrate how much scope there is to innovate within that continuum. If rock music is to have any relevance in the new millennium, it is bands like Bardo Pond that will make it so." va - Pure Will, Without the Confusions of Intellect

Here's a compilation of mostly improvised noise/electronics on Livevil, the same short-lived Japanese label that put out A Conclusion of Unrestrained Philosophy. This one includes longer tracks by fewer artists: In-Ex-Splue (a noisy Swiss improv outfit), Dislocation (an under-rated and unique Japanese band), PGR, Architects Office (once a ubiquitous presence on experimental/noise compilation tapes), and a terrific set by the duo of Junji Hirose and Otomo Yoshihide.
