Yesterday, Polish composer
Zbigniew Karkowski succumbed to pancreatic cancer.
Karkowski studied composition with Iannis Xenakis, Olivier Messiaen, and Pierre Boulez, and became a frequent collaborator of Masami Akita (
Merzbow), Tetsuo Furudate, Dutch sound artist Edwin van der Heide, Atau Tanaka, and Andrew McKenzie (
The Hafler Trio). The torment of sound engineers around the world,
Karkowski enjoyed intentionally destroying expensive PA systems before his extremely loud (and usually punk-rock brief) concerts. Today, we'll remember him for his music.
Too much deaths in 2013.
ReplyDeleteOophoi, Bernard Parmegiani, Aube and now Zbigniew Karkowski.
