I Think That I've Thought Enough!

I've got to say that having two years of time and effort erased in one second broke my heart. I needed a bit of "me time" in order to (as Mutant Sounds so eloquently put it) lick my wounds.

If I'm a pirate...piracy is in really bad shape. The mission is the same. Songs from under the floorboards...music you would probably never have heard before...seriously limited releases that disappear into private collections, played once or twice and shelved forever...links to artists and labels...and some things that you will hate but may become your new favourite thing...or some things that will just irritate you!

If I ruled the world, this stuff would be pumped out to infants to raise them away from popular "culture".

Thanks to the people that felt strongly enough to post a comment of encouragement. Especially Aaron...that one meant a lot! Big love (as always) goes to David Payne for giving me the Über-supportive / optimistic shot in the arm that I really needed. There are others and you know who you are! And...the three people who joined after the blog was killed...how's that for hope over expectation!?!

In a few days, I'm planning a post that will probably dislocate the lower jaw of the noiseheads amongst us. At that point, the January 2012 and December 2011 posts will also be back up. Please understand the work that has already gone into posting what has been deleted. Requests for other re-ups from "anonymous" and "guest" are liable to be completely ignored. Get Engaged!

Even so, we live in uncertain times and I'm loathe to put too much time in when filehosts are likely to disappear one by one. The subtext is clear...there's an american election coming and the big-money backers are flexing their muscles. In doing so, they will take out people like us!

Either way...we start again...and again...and...

  1. Hey man, just wanted to extend my commiserations for the way your inspired work on the Bleak Bliss blog has suddenly, and I expect painfully, been largely undone. I really hope this underground music-sharing scene of which you are a part doesn't disintegrate entirely...I'm sure that alternatives will surface, but transitions such as this are frustrating to say the least. Anyway, for what it's worth, you've given me a lot of joy in finding strange and exotic sounds to listen to, and for that I salute you.

    all the best,
    Camelion.

  2. Thank You! It was very painful.

I'm not going anywhere yet...there will be other people and other means. The so-called "underground" is populated by people like us...who have no interest in, and actively resist, the corporate onslaught!

The "overground" is the false reality...there has always been and will always be people like us. When i give up...there will be many people like us that will carry "this" on...

  6. good music will prevail. and without blogs like this one, many will never hear of bands like ramleh or our love will destroy the world. i remember reading magazines, in the olden days, like the wire and such, and practically crying myself to sleep, imagining what underground sounds from places like new zealand or the congo might sound like. Now, we get to hear those sounds. A global village truly emerging, and you cannot put the genie back in the bottle. Focus on the love, focus on the passion, focus on the art and on the culture, and the fringe dwellers will always be out there, lurking.

  10. don't let the fuckers get you down and never forget what you have done for those who follow your blog. It may seem like it was a waste but you are only looking at things from your own perspective. You have given the greatest gift to a lot of people: music! Love ya and thanks for everything. I'm sure you'll be back in one way or another. You love this music too much just like all of us.

  12. leaving politics out of it for the moment....i appreciate what you've done thus far and am sure you'll have some hand in in the future. i feel the pain as well..perhaps not as bad, but...hours spent uploading my own material to megaupload...gone...that's a kick in the ass full of ironic charm. many of us scramble to repost stuff while others opt to quit or at least give it a fucking depressing break for months...either way, thanks for bleakbliss, the way you've rocked it and the way i hope you continue to rock it.

  13. Hi, Badgerstump.
My English is sucks, sorry for it.
I live in Belarus, small European post-USSR country,
and living this is not so easy. People in Belarus have
300-400 dollars in month in Minsk, our capital, and
200 dollars in other small cities. Buing lot of records
in our country is nonsense. So in our music shops
there are two most avantgarde albums: Ramones "The greatest hits"
& Pink Floyd "Dark Side of the Moon" and it's not a joke.
    People who loves art,
especially strange forms of it, does much difficult work,
to get some records before Internet era.
And your blog is real garden of delights,
every post is like a bullet.
SO much rare Japanese stuff (La musica, Haino, Tatsuya),
all this pretty noise from all over the world, experimental music of
all genres, Reynols, Bark Haze, Ybo2, Gnod etc, etc.
Your blog and Mutant-sounds is two most important
web-pages for me. Thanks for all.

  14. He, thanks for your great blog, I enjoy it a lot. So many bands I would have never been able to listen to without bleakbliss.
I saw that coming: analog minded people don´t understand what´s the WWW.......the biggest thing humans ever have created. Digital is a state of mind. Media is the message, there´s is no way back, that´s evolution.

  15. Hello,
great news! (and i think, that we need great news in these times.) I must agree with the opinion of music evolution in form of internet, "underground music" blog, ect... Personally, I discovered blogorsphere three years ago (in the age of 17 years or so) and I can say, without a touch of irony, that it changed completely my life. Without blogosphere, I would have never discovered this "Oz"-world of music. So thanks for everything, again, all of you have stared a evolution.
    Filip H.
(BTW, I also think that the closing of MU affected mainly the "underground" music, coz the shit of all those BIG companies would be available on the other places in a moment, instead of years of hard work done by all of you.)

  16. I'll add my name to the chorus of "thanks for continuing" commentors.
    Looking forward to the future.

  17. Cheers Plague...it was a close call for a short while...the comments helped me remember why I started doing this in the first place!

  18. Hell yes!

Glad to see you are still hanging on after the massive blow that was dealt. It would be a shame to loose one of the best music blogs on the net, especially seeing how you seem to have a unique ability to uproot excellent tunes that no one (at least me) has never heard of.

I know I don't comment as often, but I visit this place daily, and losing it would be a travesty.

So thanks for the blog and thanks for keeping it going!

    Cheers!

  20. This is a little late, but still as poignant; the *great* Continuo blog posted this last year about profit seeking mp3 bloggers, whose greed was
sullying the cause and names of us obscure/sub-underground bloggers:
    http://continuo.wordpress.com/2011/07/02/make-money-start-a-blog/

The follow up conversation in the comments section of that post is just as illuminating as the post itself.
