Mouthus

Mouthus is the Brooklyn-based duo of Brian Sullivan and Nate Nelson who have crafted a considerable body of work since forming in 2002. Mouthus are very much in the school of NY bands like Excepter and Sightings that merge hard and sometimes velvety psych sounds with a pioneering spirit of experimentation...or whatever. Chaw Mank is Brian Sullivan of Mouthus & Richard Hoffman of Sightings btw and as far as I know there was never a Vol 2. And everybody should go and check out Brian's work as Eskimo King. I love Mouthus! Find it! Buy it! Stroke it!

Skin Graft

For the past few years, Wyatt Howland (from Cleveland, Ohio) has been gravedigging deep into the most dismal and filthy areas of sound. Skin Crime

There is an elite circle of American noise artists whose output continually rivals and even surpasses those of their Japanese counterparts, and Skin Crime were one of them. The noise Skin Crime produced shifted from atmospheric and structured to no holds barred low-end kick backs of pure aural energy. Skin Crime managed to hit on every area of noise at one time or another, and left no stone unturned when producing noise that is so compelling that it becomes challenging for other artists in the field to come close to matching it.

Kawabata Makoto

...or Makoto Kawabata. I've recently seen all of this OOP stuff for sale for unbelievably high prices. So, I decided to post.

The Private Tapes series was designed to be sold on tour and generally consist of his private musings or extremely rare live recordings of the groups that he has been involved with. "Yesterday Was Your Birthday, Baby" was released as a bonus disc when Acid Mothers Temple released Private Tapes 1-7 as a tour edition (of 30!). Each of those sets was autographed and sold during the Acid Mothers Temple "Magical Ministry Tour" in 2002.

The Early Works box set was released in 2000 in a limited edition of 100 copies, as part of the Acid Mothers Temple Private Disc Series. They were originally released between 1980 and 1983 on Kawabata's independent cassette label, R.E.P. (Revolutionary Extrication Project).

The Private Sound Drawing Series was again released as part of Acid Mothers Temple's Private Disc Series. Tour editions of (perhaps) 200.

Starving Weirdos

In 1998, Starving Weirdos began crafting a body of staggeringly beautiful, unsettling freeform soundscapes, unbeknownst to all but a tiny circle of friends and neighbours in their native Humboldt County, California. At the core of Starving Weirdos is the duo of Brian Pyle and Merrick McKinlay. The pair weave intricate tapestries of sound from strands of electroacoustic improvisation, ambient noise, free-folk, and musique concréte. The result is a profoundly disorienting music that thrives on the tension between artificiality and organicity, stillness and constant mutation. Their expansive, understated approach to improvisation and recording more closely resembles an amalgam of early AMM, Taj Mahal Travellers, Trad Gras och Stenar, and Pauline Oliveros's deep listening experiments. Thet have performed with a huge list of contemporaries including No-Neck Blues Band, Sunburned Hand of the Man, LSD March, Religious Knives, Mouthus, Yellow Swans, Jackie-O Motherfucker, MV&EE, Charalambides, Tom Carter, Magik Markers, Tarentel, Xela, White Rainbow, Valet, Rob Wallmart, Tom Blood, Spencer Doran/Cloaks, Family Underground, Lucky Dragons, Mudboy, Old Time Relijun, GHQ, Zaimph, Deerhunter, Seabear, Ignatz, Gala Drop, Nackt Insecten, Themselves (Anticon), Inca Ore/Axolotl, and Talibam!

K2

K2 is the influential noise music project of Japanese musician Kimihide Kusafuka, not to be confused with the James Ferraro project of the same name. K2's work typically consists of crashing, creaking, and scraping sounds made with pieces of junk metal, usually edited in a jarring, unpredictable style, accompanied by the sounds of various electronics. Kimihide Kusafuka's noise project has been active since 1983. The first period of K2 activity consisted of mail art and music between 1983 to 1986. Cassette works were exchanged between domestic and world-wide mail art/music artists and labels, including Masami Akita (Merzbow), G.X. Jupitter-Larsen (The Haters) and Richard van Dalen (De Fabriek). He didn't actually do any live shows until mid 1995. He stopped all of his musical and mail art activities at the end of 1986, concentrating on his work as a pathologist. Kimihide Kusafuka re-started his musical activity as K2 in early 1993, releasing many old and new cassette works, which consisted of a mix between electronic drone and cut-up noise. He then began to use metal junk for his recordings incorporating MTR, tapes and modulators with cut-up techniques for making wonderful harsh noise. K2 is the king of metal junk noise!
